Weekly Newsletter

Issue #2 is now out! Well, kind of. The site has been updated with this week’s contents, but the e-book is on hold for another day while our artist finishes his illustrations.

This issue consists of the complete The Spriggan Mirror, a novel by Lawrence Watt-Evans, along with “Sirinita’s Dragon,” a short story by the same. Purchased issues also receive the full album One State Two State, by the Light Footwork. This marks the beginning of a new tradition with Son and Foe: all issues will be bundled with complete albums from here on out.

Thanks for your patience; now, for the good stuff…

The Spriggan Mirror: Chapter One
by Lawrence Watt-Evans

Gresh was yawning, still not entirely awake, when the bell jingled and the just-unlocked door of his shop opened behind him, letting in a swirl of cold air. He blinked once more, flexed his shoulders, and started to turn.

The Spriggan Mirror: Chapter Two
by Lawrence Watt-Evans

Once Dina was safely on her way with a fresh bottle of blood, Gresh locked and re-sealed the vault, closed the front door, and settled on the other velvet chair. He watched as Twilfa slipped out the back, then turned to focus on his customer.

We’ve added three new, important, awesome sections to the site since issue one debuted:

http://store.sonandfoe.com

The Store

At The Store, you can do everything from purchase immediate downloads of Son and Foe issues to donate money to… well, that probably covers most of it right now. Over the next week, however, we’ll be adding at least two albums for sale through the store as immediate downloads, and we’re working on arranging posters of illustrations that appeared in Issue #1.

Paradise Found

At Paradise Found, Son and Foe’s new, permanent archive, issues and everything else you can think of that are related to Son and Foe are made available, for free, for as long as we can get away with it. Paradise Found is also a Wiki, running off the same software that powers Wikipedia. Stop by, and if you see something that should be in the archive but isn’t… add it yourself!

Son and Foe Services

Son and Foe is a labor of love, but it needs money to stay viable. Each issue costs anywhere from $1,500 to $2,500 to put together, and currently, I’m paying for it all out of my pocket.

How do I do it? Well, I eat lots of rice and beans, and don’t go out much. The Services section was set up to help fund issues of Son and Foe; think of it as a way to donate, and get something back in return.

Currently, Son and Foe offers content editing and copyediting at very reasonable prices. We will also design and set up a personal blog or site for a modest fee, and for a dirt-cheap price, we are also offering hosting of blogs on the sonandfoe.com domain. These blogs are fully featured, not crippled in any way, and consist of exactly the same software that powers http://current.sonandfoe.com and http://blog.sonandfoe.com. They are as flexible, powerful, and customizable as you want to make them.

Well, it’s been a rough and wild ride, but worth it. The second issue is complete, and nearly ready to ship. The site is up and running, with only a few tweaks left to ad. Even better, the entire collection of Son and Foe sites has seen some great improvements and additions over the past few weeks.

We hope you continue to enjoy Son and Foe as we go through these periods of growth. Thanks for your interest!
