Dr. Steve Watkins, PhD, is a writer. He’s not a scientist, a computer programmer, or a mathematician: he is a wordsmith. I know this because when asked what the odds were of Son and Foe still being around this time next year, he wisely conceded, “I don’t know enough math to answer.” We won’t hold it against him, and it is likely we’ll still pick up a copy of CRITTERWORLD and Other Stories, forthcoming from Southern Methodist University Press in Fall of 2006.
In the meantime, check out The Black O: Racism and Redemption in an American Corporate Empire (nonfiction). It’s a good read, as are all of Steve’s. More information about his accomplishments can be found on at the website of the University of Mary Washington, where he is an associate professor of English in the ELS Department. How he finds time to teach and write with four daughters in his life is an open question. You can ask him at swatkins@umw.edu.
